Parenting Consultant

Anderson Psychological Services, LLC provides Parenting Consulting services to co-parents. Parenting consulting is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process, and requires a court order appointing Dr. Anderson.
What is a parenting consultant (PC)
The PC works with parents in an effort to reduce the need for direct court involvement. The primary purpose of the PC role is to assist with the resolution of disputes–outside of court–if parents are unable to resolve the issue on their own. Co-parenting issues can range from managing aspects that were not contemplated at the time the parenting plan was developed, to guiding step-up schedules, or monitoring either mental health or chemical dependency issues.
How might a PC be helpful to parents who easily find themselves in conflict?
When parents are not able to reach an agreement, the PC makes decisions for them – but without the formality, cost, and delay of litigation in family court proceedings. Beyond facilitating agreements and (potentially) decisions, PCs can identify needs for support, and help parents reduce conflict.
Parents are expected to work together to resolve a co-parenting issue. In the event parents are unable to, they may jointly request assistance from a PC. A PC can mediate a disagreement by scheduling either separate or joint meetings. Dr. Anderson prefers to work jointly with parents whenever possible, both to increase efficiency and to support parents to communicate about necessary care and decisions for their children. However, some co-parents struggle to work together, and separate meetings are necessary – with Dr. Anderson acting as the intermediary. Hearing perspective and observations of the children at each home creates the foundation for the development of sustainable and supportive agreements. However, if the parents are unable to reach an agreement, Dr. Anderson will work within the scope of the PC Order to provide a decision to resolve an impasse.
